In Cairo, the test operations for the passenger-carrying service began on January 1st along the 6.6-kilometer northwestern branch of Line 3 of the Cairo metro. This new section spans six stations, running from Kit Kat to Rod Al-Farag. Meanwhile, testing is also underway for the 7.1-kilometer southwestern branch connecting Kit Kat to Cairo University. Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels has announced plans to open this stretch ‘during the coming period.’

Moving to Kraków, Poland, the MPK Kraków unveiled the final 0.7-kilometer segment of the fast tram route to Górka Narodowa on January 8th. The extension expands the routes 18 and 50. The construction, managed by contractor Intercor, commenced in July 2020. A section of the line, stretching 3.6 kilometers from Krowodrza Górka to the temporary terminus at Papierni Pradnickich, opened in September 2023 and has since served 42,500 passengers. The newly opened Górka Narodowa terminal boasts enhanced facilities such as a tram turning loop, improved bus interchange, and a 470-space Park & Ride area, offering easy access from the ongoing construction of the northern bypass.

Meanwhile, in Hong Kong, MTR Corp has launched a special ‘Year of the Dragon’ ticket set, coinciding with the Lunar New Year on February 10th. These tickets offer unlimited rides. The design features the auspicious colors of red and gold, symbolizing wishes for good health and an enthusiastic spirit. Additionally, a QR code available on MTR Mobile allows users to download six WhatsApp stickers inspired by the ticket illustrations. The front of the red packet showcases a pictogram of a dragon carrying a gold ingot, adding a touch of symbolism to the festive celebrations.
